Problem is, even when I subscribe to mods, my launcher simply says "checking subscribed mod 1 0f 12" and then jumps straight to the synchronized status, without actually loading a single mod into data files.

Seems like I'm running into the same problem as several others here -- it'll say it's checking the mods I've subscribed to, sit at the first one for 20 or 30 seconds, then hop straight to saying it's finished syncing them when not a single one is loaded. Let me get this straight, you have watched videos, you have checked forums and everything else, and yet, somehow, you did not see anywhere that SSE does not have workshop mods for it?
Absolutely amazing. As others have mentioned, there is no workshop for Skyrim SE mods. Your best bet is nexus. You can but its a lot of work and you also need Oldrim. Download the mod for oldrim from workshop,then move it to SE load up the SE Creation Kit open and save the mod,then you have to convert the textures,meshes but there is a program for that.
